Southern Iran: From the “Cradle of Wealth” to the “Sacrifice of Anti-Iranian Policies”

Southern Iran, a land resting upon vast reserves of oil and natural gas and long regarded as the beating heart of the nation’s economy has once again become the frontline of a devastating confrontation, where the air is filled with the smell of smoke, blood, and ashes.

For the people of Khuzestan and Abadan, these scenes are tragically familiar: once again, the sound of explosions, the fear of uncertainty, and the pain of displacement. Yet this time, there is a profound difference. This suffering is not the result of a national struggle for self-defense, but the consequence of the sectarian and militant policies of a regime that, for forty-seven years, has held not only the south but the entirety of Iran hostage.

A Bitter Paradox: Richest in Resources, Poorest in Reality

How can the region that powers the country’s economy remain trapped in such deprivation?

For decades, the people of southern Iran have endured temperatures exceeding 50°C, suffocating dust storms, failing infrastructure, and inadequate basic services. Despite living atop immense natural wealth, many have been left with little more than the struggle of daily survival.

The ruling establishment diverted the wealth of the south toward supporting proxy groups across the region instead of investing in the prosperity and development of the very provinces that generate the nation’s wealth.

Beyond draining its resources, it has also compromised the security of its own citizens, making their safety hostage to ideological ambitions and regional conflicts.

Do Not Fall for Propaganda: Distinguish the People’s Suffering from the Regime’s Narrative

To every Iranian patriot:

Today, southern Iran is burning. But we must remain vigilant and refuse to become captive to the narrative promoted by the Islamic Republic.

The regime seeks to cloak its own destructive policies behind the language of patriotism, presenting its actions as “defending the homeland” while concealing the consequences of decades of crisis-driven governance.

The conflict imposed upon the people of southern Iran is neither of their choosing nor one in which they have had any meaningful voice. True national awareness requires recognizing that the dangers threatening southern Iran today are the direct consequence of policies that place ideological survival above Iran’s national interests.

Who Bears Responsibility?

The answer must be stated plainly.

The Islamic Republic bears responsibility for the devastating eight-year Iran-Iraq War, for the long-term impoverishment of Khuzestan, and for creating the conditions that have once again turned southern Iran into the target of military confrontation.

This regime has not governed in the service of Iran’s national interests, but in pursuit of its own ideological objectives.

If the goal is to restore security, prosperity, environmental sustainability, and dignity to southern Iran, meaningful change requires confronting the political system that has produced these crises.

The Only Path Forward: A Free Iran

A southern Iran free from the Islamic Republic has the potential to reclaim its historic strength and prosperity.

Only a national government that places the welfare of the Iranian people, economic development, and national interests above ideological expansionism and regional proxy conflicts can begin to heal these long-standing wounds.

The people of Iran must not be deceived by propaganda. The path forward lies in pursuing accountability for those responsible for decades of policies that have brought instability and suffering, so that southern Iran and the nation as a whole, may finally experience lasting peace and security.

Toward a free, prosperous, and united Iran.

Long live Iran
